This week, I have learned so much about equity and its effects on the field of early childhood education. One of the biggest things that I learned this week is just how much of an impact socio-economic status has on our children and their success. This goes to show that labels and status in this day and age really do affect the people whom we become. Socio-economic issues such as race, English Language Learners, lack of parental education, and so forth are several demonstrations of just how broad the topic of inequity really is.
I was happy to read about "The Center on the Developing Child" this week. I loved hearing that one of the goals of the center is to protect children from any adversity. I feel that in current times, society has become so selfish in dealing with issues that they do not focus on the fact that children are innocent souls. It is up to us as adults, educators, and family members to mold and shape children into who they will be for the remainder of their lives. I truly feel that children cannot remain innocent if they are constantly subjected to adverse conditions.

I agree, How are children able to stay innocent when they have to deal with adult issues. The best part of the center is that they have gone globally to help children have a chance at a long, health and academic life. They are not only working to bridge the gap between education and help but to also help chance policies. They are helping all kinds of people and reaching to far ends of the world in hope of educating them on the importance of education.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post! Great Post by the way. I do agree that children are the innocent party in a wreck of unfortunate events that without proper aid, advocacy or support can sometimes lead to a period of catching up developmentally. I loved the perspective that you were able to present with the information of The Center on the Developing Child. I believe their research is cutting edge and help organizations like NAECY, NHSA, and The National Black Child Development Institute to advocate using research-based evidence to support their push for more funding, support and laws to protect these children and their families. The Black Child Development Institute deliver culturally relevant resources that respond to the unique strengths and needs of Black children around issues including early childhood education, health, child welfare, literacy, and family engagement. Their mission is “to improve and advance the quality of life for Black children and their families through education and advocacy. It is because the partnerships between many these early childhood organizations that children in socio-economic backgrounds can get a fighting chance.
