Developmental Stages of Young Children
My chosen research topic for this course is the developmental stages of young children. I chose this topic due to its level of relevance in my current career role as an Education Coordinator at a mega childcare center. My goal is to utilize all that I learn in this course and deliver it to my staff. I constantly find myself trying to find new and innovative ways to explain the stages of development to the teachers I supervise so that they can be more intentional and confident in their planning process. So far in my research I have stumbled upon some interesting studies regarding how a child's stages of development can greatly effect the people around them, especially their parents and teachers. You can view the article by visiting the link at the end of this blog. I would like to know if anyone has come across any research related to the developmental stages of young children? If so, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am excited to read and discover new things through all of your chosen research topics as well.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI think you have chosen a very good topic for this course. I, too am an education cooridnator and I am using the knowledge I learn to help my teaching staff in every way that I can. I chose to learn more about bilingual education as we have numerous children in our centers who's home language is Spanish.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteGreat topic. I have been studying child development for the past 6 years. I am curious if Educational Coordinator is similar to a program director? I enjoy learning about Sigmund Freud as well as Jean Piaget's theory on a child's developmental stages.

Hi Natalie,
ReplyDeleteYour topic is very important for anyone in the EC field. I would love to know what you find. It is very important to know how to impact your children on their level. Two sites I would recommend is NAEYC and PubMed. Both would give you different views of development.
I also recommend that you play games with your staff. Something like "How to impact this child". You can give each person a card that has details about the child and the developmental stage they are in. The educator that has the most effective plan of impact could win office supplies or something... Just a thought.
Adults love to play!
Best wishes
Hi Shabrika,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very good topic and presents lots of sub topics. I am an assistant director of a preschool. Because we stay pretty full with enrollment, and try to group the children as they would go to kindergarten together. Teachers often end up with a class of many different developmental stages. And then because of circumstances they often may have a child that is lacking in some areas. I found this article recently and shared it with my staff. It discusses the effects that life events sometimes has on development of young children. It might be useful, but if nothing else it is a good read.
