European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA)

Upon exploration of the the EECERA website, I discovered that many of the same issues in early childhood education here in the US are prevalent all over the world. Professionalism, parent communication, transitions, and other prominent topics that I experience on an everyday basis were presented on the EECERA website.

I also stumbled upon an article entitled "Parents' Play Beliefs and Engagement in Young Children's Play at Home". I have always been interested in the role of play in the development of young children, so this article immediately struck my interest. The authors discussed their study of the effects of the level of parent engagement in play at home in the development of their young children. The study concluded that most parents participate in play with their children more so as teachers rather than playmates. I never really considered this to be true, so this was an eye opener for me when looking at play engagement from adults as a whole.

  1. Shabrika,
I also looked at the Early Childhood Australia website. I found it very interesting as well. I was not able to access the articles. Did you find a way to get full access to them?

  2. Hi Shabrika,
I really like your findings on play in the home. I feel that a child becomes more interested in play when they are being engaged by an adult whether it be their parents or a teacher. As an early childhood educator, I've noticed that my students become even more excited in their play when I engage with them, ask them questions, and add on to their creativity.

  3. Shabrika,

After doing some browsing, I too have noticed that most countries are having the same issues. I was drawn to Australia, because I reached out to a few daycare managers last quarter. I looked at the same website, but was not able to access any of the articles. How did you gain access to the articles? I was only able to view the titles, authors, and a brief insert of the article. I am glad that you got access.

  4. I can see this happening, that parents participate in play with their children more so as teachers rather than playmates. If you think about, parents are teaching their child while playing with them. We may not look at it as teaching, we just enjoy making our kids happy. So while we are playing, we teach. Just as they do in school. While they play, they teach us and we guide them.
